Well, here’s to getting back into the habit of blog posting! But, since I’m getting rid of my facebook account – it should free up plenty of time for regular posts on the ongoing stories of our family. First things first – to catch everyone up on us.
Dad has been working at his job for about 6 months now. He enjoys the work, but the schedule is crazy. His official schedule is Sat – Tues, 4:45PM – 3:30AM. But on weeks that he is training, he works Mon-Fri, 8-5PM. And with all the rules and regulations that go along with his job – he does a lot of training. He continues to keep his eye out for a new position that will enable to him to not work on Sunday, but is very thankful to have a job at all in this economy.
With Dad’s job, we were able to purchase our first home. It’s a modest sized home that we got on the cheap due to it being a gov’t foreclosure and in need of some work. Dad has spent a lot of time getting the sprinkler system working. The other big projects include replacing the water heater, installing a water softener, new carpet/flooring, new paint, and fixing the roof. But we are so excited to be in our own home, despite needed repairs. The girls love to be outside playing and enjoying the shade of our large tree (still trying to figure out what kind it is).
Mom continues to be a stay-at-home-mom with all that entails. Cooking, cleaning, laundry and unpacking fill her typical day. She works hard to get their budget down as far as possible to enable the family to pay off student loans and the house as soon as we can. So that means cooking from scratch, using lots of legumes (because meat is so blasted expensive) and the recent switch to cloth diapers (which are a lot easier than she ever expected).
Rebekah is attending the local elementary school and in the 5th grade. She recently joined band and is learning the clarinet. At 11, she is fully into being a pre-teen (and all the hormones that go with it). But despite the struggles of this in between stage, she is still a good girl. She’s an excellent big sister and helps a lot around the house.
Rose is also attending the local elementary school and in the 3rd grade. She is quite the socialite and much more physical than her older sister. She loves to ride bike and scooter equally, going as fast as she can down any hill she can find, laughing maniacally the whole way down and when she wrecks she continues to laugh (thankfully she has helmet and pads that prevent any serious injury).
Rachel has developed an attitude that is unbelievable. It involves hands on hips, ‘whatever’s and pursed lips. But she still loves to help with chores and give out hugs and kisses. Hopefully, with starting home preschool soon, we’ll be able to direct her abundant energy into more positive directions.
Robin was well-named after her grandfather. Girl is too smart for her own good and got a heck of a temper. She is the most prone of all our children to smacking, biting and tossing objects at your head. But she also has a predisposition towards being very helpful and lovable. She’s also a great eater, willing to eat whatever you put in front of her. Still under two years old, it is mostly a matter of mom and dad encouraging good behaviors and discouraging bad.
Ruth is now 6-months and beginning solid foods. So far, she’s had rice, peas and a popsicle. She loves to play with her toys and giggle at her silly family. She seems to be a very sensitive baby – easily upset by fighting, yelling or crying.
